I began my educational career in Selma City Schools in 2001 as a High Hopes Mathematics Tutor.  Upon my graduation from Alabama State University, I returned to my hometown of McIntosh, Alabama.  This began my tenure at McIntosh High School where I taught grades 9 – 12 mathematics courses.  While teaching at McIntosh High School, I also was named Washington County Coach of the Year (2011 and 2012), Junior Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach, Assistant Football Coach, Assistant Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach, Head Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach, Athletic Director, Director of the St. Union Baptist 21st Century Community Learning Center, Assistant Principal, and Interim Principal. Prior to becoming principal at Sumter Central High School, I worked in the Mobile County Public School System.  During my tenure in the Mobile County Public School System, I was a high school mathematics teacher, Athletic Director, Saturday School Administrator, and Night School Administrator.

I grew up in McIntosh, Alabama in the Washington County School District and a 1997 graduate of McIntosh High School.  I received my Bachelors of Science Degree from Alabama State University in Mathematics Education in 2001 and my Masters of Education Degree from the University of South Alabama in Education Administration and Supervision in 2007.  I also earned the distinction of being a Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) in 2012 and a Certified Master Athletic Administrator (CMAA) from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association in 2016.

My educational experiences have afforded me the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of people to meet the common goal of increasing student achievement and well being. My educational philosophy is based on my uncompromising belief that all students can learn, given a positive learning environment, strong and knowledgeable leadership, a committed and focused educational team, an encouraging community, and a supportive family. All of which, the Sumter County School System possess.

During my free time, I enjoy spending time with my beautiful wife, Andrea Simmons, and my three children (Marsha’ Zanetta – 11, Bruno A. Simmons Jr. – 8, and Avary O’neal – 5).
